QUEENSLAND · SERVICE

How service changes a Queensland tenancy notice date.

A minimum period cannot be counted correctly until you know when service occurred. Email consent, hand delivery and postal delivery each need to be handled explicitly.

Before using email: check electronic-service agreement

Electronic service depends on the recipient having agreed to receive notices electronically. Use the nominated address and keep the sent message and attachment.

Hand / personal delivery

Record the date, time, place and manner of delivery. Keep a copy of the exact notice delivered.

Serving by post

The notice period begins after delivery. Postal times vary, so this tool accepts either a known delivery date or a current business-day estimate supplied by the user.

Why the calculator asks for delivery timing

Hard-coding one postal delay would create false precision. An estimated result is labelled and should be checked against current Australia Post guidance before it is relied on.

Keeping proof of service

Keep the completed notice, postal receipt or tracking, email record, any electronic-service consent, and notes of personal delivery.

Worked example

If a notice is posted on Monday and the current delivery estimate is four business days, the calculator first finds the estimated delivery date and only then starts the applicable notice-period calculation.
