QUEENSLAND · DATE RULES

How Queensland counts tenancy notice days.

The service day is not day one. A seven-clear-day example served on 12 June counts 13 June as day one and 19 June as day seven, so the next action date is 20 June.

Clear days: what the phrase means

Clear-day counting excludes the day the notice is served. The full required number of days must pass.

What if the final day is Saturday, Sunday or a public holiday?

For rules using the verified statutory adjustment, the date moves to the next business day.

Counting weeks

A week is seven days, but service and final-day rules still need to be applied.

Counting months

Calendar months are not interchangeable with a fixed number of days. End-of-month dates require calendar-aware arithmetic.

Why posting changes the calculation

The notice period begins after delivery, not merely when the envelope is posted.
